The sudden rug pull from under the feet of those looking forward to seeing Tobey Maguire and John Malkovich in Sam Raimi’s fourth Spider Man film left us wondering what the future of the super hero would be.

Enter Sony, with plans for a high school reboot, and then plucking (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb to take on the supposed trilogy, and now we’ve learned of five names on Sony’s list to play the young webslinger.

Sound familiar? Remember the names rumoured to play Captain America which span around the internet ether until Chris Evans was cast? Well, here we are again. The names are: Jamie Bell, Frank Dillane, Josh Hutcherson, Alden Ehrenreich and Andrew Garfield.

You’ll notice the lack of Logan Lerman, who we heard was being considered for the role, and HeatVision, who broke the news, are stressing that this is just a list of actors Webb and Sony are meeting with so until there’s a more official announcement we’ll be pinching our salt.

Jamie Bell is perhaps the most well known, although I’d love to see Andrew Garfield take on the role – his work in Red Riding and Gilliam’s Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus was fantastic and I’m very much looking forward to his work with Fincher and Sorkin in The Social Network. Bell’s next big role will be as Tintin so his star will rise buffeted by Spielberg and Jackson.

So, again there’s some more names for us to imagine behind the mask – anyone leap out?
