Last night we joined the cast and crew on the red carpet of the special gala screening of War for the Planet of the Apes, held at the Ham Yard Hotel in London. Andy Serkis returns as Caesar, king of the apes, against the well-armed dregs of humanity for one final battle.

The latest modern Planet of the Apes film draw a close to one of the most surprising franchises in recent years. Serkis himself can take a great deal of credit, along with the geniuses at WETA, for the emotional heart at the centre of the trilogy. The CGI is of astonishing quality, and is backed up with some fearless performances.

We caught up with Serkis on the carpet, along with his cast mates Steve Zahn and Amiah Miller. We also got some time with director Matt Reeves, who will soon have his hands full in Gotham City with The Batman – he kept tight-lipped when we asked him about his forthcoming film.

Scott Davis and Colin Hart were on the carpet, here’s how they got on.

War for the Planet of the Apes is released in UK cinemas July 11 and in the US on July 14.
