With Charlize Theron in talks for the role of the evil queen, this original retelling of the famed Grimm fairytale differs from both its source material – and the Disney version – by having the Huntsman become Snow White’s protector and mentor as they avoid the queen and her pesky death warrant.

Scheduled for release on Dec 21, 2012, the film has been fast-tracked to avoid competition with several other Snow White retellings – most notably Relativity’s Tarsem Singh directed project.

With the role of Snow White still yet to be cast, director Rupert Sanders is looking to audition unknown actresses for the part. The film, the rights for which reportedly cost Universal a seven figure sum, will go before cameras in Summer.

Variety had this one first.
