Matt Damon has been on the big screen for over 30 years and has starred in several highly acclaimed movies. The actor turned 50 in 2020 and is perhaps best known for playing Jason Bourne in the Bourne movie franchise. Throughout the films, Damon is responsible for many of the action sequences as he trained to perform the stunts himself. However, today we are looking back at some of Damon’s underrated performances, beginning with Hereafter.

Released in 2010, Hereafter stars Damon as a psychic and he has the ability to communicate with the dead but struggles with how this will affect the people involved. In fact, he decides he would rather not have the gift at all but having spoken to a young boy about his dead brother, he begins to find purpose again in his abilities. There are several overlapping stories in the film, showing how different people are dealing with a loss in their lives and although the pace can be slow at times, Damon is fantastic throughout. If you are yet to see Hereafter, it is definitely one of the top 3 underrated Matt Damon movies and you must check it out.

We now go back to 1998 to find one the best early performances of Damon’s career as Mike McDermott in Rounders. The movie stars Damon as a young poker player but having lost $30,000 in a game, he decides he is going to go back to law school to finish his studies. However, there is a twist when Mike’s friend, Worm, is released from prison and seeks the help of Mike to clear his debts. Worm persuades Mike to get back to the poker table and win the money to help clear his debts. Mike agrees but wants to play clean whereas Worm wants him to cheat his way to victory. The poker scenes are fantastic and given his assured performance in the movie, it comes as little surprise to learn Damon has since participated in World Series of Poker events.

Having watched the movie Rounders, you may be tempted to try your own luck at casino games and there is a great selection of exclusive live casino tables at Casumo. You will find blackjack, roulette, and baccarat among the games available, all of which can be played with a real dealer.

Our final look at Damon’s most underrated performances takes us to The Talented Mr. Ripley, a film that was released just a year after Rounders. This is considered by many viewers as being Damon’s breakthrough performance as a young actor and is one of the darkest roles he has played in his career to date. Damon stars as Ripley, a con artist who is paid to travel to Europe to persuade Dickie, a wealthy man, to return home. However, having won over Dickie, Ripley proceeds to kill him and assumes his identity. It is a thrilling movie and Damon is tremendous as the charming yet terrifying and psychopathic Ripley.
