A24 has unveiled the official trailer for ‘Tony,’ a raw and intimate biopic inspired by the early life of legendary chef, author, and cultural icon Anthony Bourdain.
The film stars Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers, Now You See Me 3) as a 19-year-old Bourdain, capturing a pivotal chapter set in 1975. At this point in his life, Bourdain is far from the globally recognised storyteller he would become. Instead, he’s a young man working in a modest Massachusetts restaurant, still simmering with untapped ambition.
Everything begins to change when he travels to Provincetown. There, he’s pulled into the chaotic, high-pressure world of a restaurant kitchen, a place where heat, ego, artistry, and adrenaline collide. The trailer hints at long nights, hard lessons, and the kind of messy, electric experiences that would later flavour his voice and worldview.
The film draws significant inspiration from Bourdain’s bestselling memoir, Kitchen Confidential, published in 2000. That book famously peeled back the curtain on the culinary industry, revealing both its grit and its strange, intoxicating allure.
Joining Sessa is an impressive ensemble cast, including Emilia Jones, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rich Sommers, Stavros Halkias, with Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas rounding out the cast.
Behind the camera is director Matt Johnson, who describes the film as “an interpretation.”
