For months we have been told that in no way will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man be making an appearance in Venom. News to the contrary has emerged from the mouth of documentary director Jon Schnepp.

Speaking on Collider’s Movie Talk, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? director stated that Holland’s Spider-Man will be making an appearance;

“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man – and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – is going to be in Venom.”

Tom Hardy leads the cast as Eddie Brock, who in the comics was a photographer; Brock later becomes Venom after bonding with a Symbiote. Venom, conceived as a supervillain, became somewhat of an anti-hero. A Symbiote is a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form.

The anti-hero has already made an appearance in previous reincarnations of the Spider-man series, Back in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 in 2007, Venom was played by Topher Grace.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the comic-book outing which see Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate on the cast.

Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) have written the script for “Venom,” with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the movie, along with Amy Pascal. Palak Patel are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.

Production on Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will begin later this year and will see a 2019 release.

Venom will hit cinemas in October 2018
