Ghostbusters actress, Kristen Wiig, is to return to the small screen in Apple’s collaboration with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner for Apple’s first scripted comedy series.

The series, which will run for 10 episodes, is inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld’s upcoming short-story collection You Think It, I’ll Say It.Wiig will also act as an executive producer on the show. 30 Rock’s Colleen McGuinness created the series and will serve as showrunner. She will exec produce alongside Witherspoon, her Hello Sunshine topper Lauren Neustadter and Wiig. A studio is not yet attached; the series is expected to be set up soon.

Wiig was a regular on SNL for seven years between 2005-2017, from there she went on to star in feature films such as Bridesmaids, which won her an Oscar nomination for co-writing the screenplay.  She has since gone on to star in The Martian, the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, Darren Aronofsky’s mother! and Downsizing opposite Matt Damon. She will also be starring in the English Language remake of Toni Erdmann and voicing Ruffnut Thorston in How to Train Your Dragon 3.

Apple now has a standing relationship with Witherspoon. The new series will be their third collaboration together after having worked on Are You Sleeping, which she stars in alongside Octavia Spencer and Jennifer Aniston.

Apple landed the deal for the show after a tough bidding war. The tech company are also still in a battle with HBO for J.J. Abrams first script since Fringe.

Information on how and where Apple will be distributing this or any of their new shows are yet to be announced.
