It was announced in June that Tim Burton had plans to rework Charles Addams’ Addams Family cartoons into a 3D feature length stop-motion film, tentatively titled The Addams Family.

Deadline are now reporting that Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who also wrote Ed Wood for Burton, will be writing the screenplay for The Addams Family.

Karaszewski said of the collaboration, “We want the tone to be as darkly funny and subversive as the Addams drawings, and we’ve come up with an approach that nobody has ever done before.”

In other Burton news, he’s set to produce Alexander and Keraszewski’s directorial debut, Big Eyes. The fact-based drama is based on Margaret Keane’s struggle to receive financing for her popular line of paintings in the 60’s.

Burton said of Big Eyes, “‘I am excited to be working with Scott and Larry again […] I’ve always been a great admirer of Margaret Keane’s work and find her story intriguing.'”

Tim Burton’s stop-motion Addams Family film will be a co-production between Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures, while Alexander and Keraszewski’s Big Eyes will be produced by Silverwood Films.
