The Woman in Black: Angel of Death Promo PosterFollowing the astounding success of last year’s The Woman in Black, which became something of a sleeper hit around the world for Hammer Films, we first heard late last year that Tom Harper had come on board to direct the sequel, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death.

We saw a pretty snazzy promo poster surface back in November, at which time we were still in the dark about who would be taking the leads this time around in Daniel Radcliffe’s place.

And now Hammer have announced that Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Phoebe Fox (Switch) have signed on to take the leads for the sequel, set several decades after the original.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH will continue the story four decades later. Seized by the government during World War II, the sudden arrival of a group of evacuated children at Eel Marsh House awakens its darkest inhabitant.

Harper (Misfits) will be directing from a script penned by Jon Croker (Desert Dancer), based on an original story by Susan Hill, the author of The Woman in Black.

Irvine is coming off the back of Mike Newell’s acclaimed Great Expectations adaptation. He’s soon set to be seen in The Railway Man, co-starring Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgård, and Hiroyuki Sanada; and has more recently wrapped A Night in Old Mexico, co-starring Robert Duvall, and The World Made Straight, co-starring Haley Joel Osment, Noah Wyle, Adelaide Clemens, and Minka Kelly.

Fox, most recently starring as Grace in ITV2’s supernatural comedy-drama, Switch, will be making her feature debut here in the sequel.

No word yet on when exactly we can look forward to seeing The Woman in Black: Angel of Death. But with the leads now cast, production will hopefully be getting underway soon. And we can keep our fingers crossed for a similar release next year to the original, which debuted in February 2012.
