Needless to say, it’s on track for a huge weekend as it opens in North America this weekend, with projections estimating it will be the highest-grossing domestic release of the year so far.
I saw the film at the BFI IMAX last Thursday and, naturally, instantly fell in love with it. Black and co-writer Drew Pearce have done an incredible job in kick-starting Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the blockbuster is guaranteed a slot as one of the best movies of the year.
With its Stateside release just a few days away, Marvel are continuing to gear up their campaign, and they’ve now debuted a new TV spot teasing some of the epic action featured in the film.
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Robert Downey, Jr. reprises his role once more as Tony Stark / Iron Man. And starring alongside him is a brilliant cast, led by Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ben Kingsley, Jon Favreau, James Badge Dale, Stephanie Szostak, Wang Xueqi, and Fan Bingbing (in the Chinese alternate cut), with Paul Bettany reprising his role as the voice of JARVIS.
Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce.
With Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy all on the horizon before the arrival of The Avengers 2, Marvel’s Phase Two is looking incredibly promising. And Iron Man 3 has really set the bar high.
Iron Man 3 is now playing in 3D and IMAX 3D in cinemas across the UK, with its US release date set for this Friday, May 3rd. Make sure you see this film as soon as humanly possible; I can’t wait to go see it again. And again. It is just epic.
