New details have emerged of the sequel to The Woman in Black, which is cheerily subtitled Angels of Death, and we have a clearer picture of how Hammer will keep the old girl going without Daniel Radcliffe to scare in the face.

Shock Till You Drop have their hands on a brief outline of what screenwriter Jon Croker has to work with, and though no mention is made of Susan Hill the previous release from Hammer made much of the fact that the writer had created the story for Croker to adapt.

Strange then that the only line of description contained in that release should vary slightly from the synopsis out in the wild today. Hammer previously stated,

This next instalment, The Woman in Black: Angels Of Death, will continue this story four decades later and focus on the concept of a couple and the experience they have when they encounter the haunted setting of Eel Marsh House.

And here’s the short synopsis doing the rounds,

Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh Harsh has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.

Perhaps the couple mentioned by Hammer have been jettisoned, or there will be another leading character not mentioned here. Shades of Nick Murphy’s The Awakening come to mind when reading this new plot description however there’s fertile ground here and Hammer have a long history of running their popular franchises into that ground.

Hopes high as always.
