MGM+ has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming original crime drama ‘The Westies,’ offering a brutal glimpse into the blood-soaked underworld of 1980s Hell’s Kitchen. Led by Academy Award-winning actor J.K. Simmons, the eight-episode series is set to premiere exclusively on MGM+ on 12th July.
The series centres on the notorious Westies gang during a volatile moment in New York history, as the construction of the Jacob Javits Convention Centre promises enormous financial opportunities on their Hell’s Kitchen turf. Though heavily outnumbered by New York’s Five Families of the Italian Mafia, the Westies maintain their grip through sheer brutality, calculated intimidation and an uneasy alliance with their Mafia counterparts.
But beneath the surface, fractures begin to spread. A growing divide between the gang’s younger, more reckless members and the old-school leadership threatens to ignite internal warfare just as the FBI intensifies its crackdown on organised crime across the city.
At the centre of the storm is J.K. Simmons as Eamonn Sweeney, one of the gang’s key figures, navigating loyalty, violence and survival in an increasingly unstable criminal empire.
The ensemble cast also includes Titus Welliver, Tom Brittney, Sarah Bolger, Jessica Frances Dukes and Stanley Morgan. ‘The Westies’ marks creator Chris Brancato’s third collaboration with MGM+, following the success of Godfather of Harlem and the acclaimed Narcos.
