Amazon / Roadside Attractions’s transformation into a fully-fledged media giant is gaining ground.  The streaming/shopping giant picked up Dwain Worrell’s 2014 Black List script and hired Doug Liman to bring the harrowing war drama to the big screen. Today we received our first look at The Wall.

The film tells the story of two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper with only the titular wall between them and certain death. Said to be as much about the psychology of war as it is about the grim reality of survival in a hostile climate, the casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson will bring something special to the tale.

Joining the Nocturnal Animals star is WWE wrestler John Cena. When not appearing in memes the wrestler lead 2006’s The Marine, as well as played supporting roles in comedies such as Sisters, Trainwreck and the Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg double header Daddy’s Home.

Hoping, no doubt, to emulate the success of trailblazer Dwayne Johnson (whose forthcoming Baywatch movie dropped its first trailer today), there’s enough of an audience to be brought into the cinemas by Cena’s involvement. Amazon will be hoping he draws them in to this new film. Laith Nakli is the third man in the leading trio.

The Wall Movie Synopsis

The Wall follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship.

The Wall arrives in US cinemas on the 10th of March 2017 and no UK release date has been set yet.
