The-To-Do-List-BannerHeading into US cinemas this weekend, The To Do List has all the promise of being one of the funniest films of the year, with the ever-brilliant Aubrey Plaza front and centre as the young lead.

The comedy has been likened to as quintessential a teen (gross-out) comedy as American Pie, and that really speaks for itself. So if you’re looking for a comedy alternative in American cinemas this weekend, opening opposite the action fare of The Wolverine, then The To Do List looks like a very strong bet. And as the film heads into theatres, CBS have released a great new red-band supercut trailer, via Yahoo Movies, to give you a helpful little nudge.

Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

Plaza is joined by an absolutely stellar cast, led by Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Andy Samberg, Clark Gregg, Connie Britton, Scott Porter, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Johnny Simmons, and Sarah Steele, making for an awesome ensemble.

Maggie Carey makes her feature debut as both writer and director, having written for the likes of Funny or Die and In the Motherhood, and created The Jeannie Tate Show.

The To Do List is now playing in the US, as of today, July 26th. Sadly, we’ve got a little while still to go before its UK release date, 4th October. And even though this looks like the perfect summer comedy, it should be well worth the wait. For now, here’s the latest red-band trailer, along with a reminder that this is very much NSFW. Enjoy!
