The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-PosterRyan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, two of the finest actors of their generation, star opposite each other in Derek Cianfrance’s immense The Place Beyond the Pines.

I saw the film at its TIFF debut last year and absolutely loved it. So naturally, I’ve been looking forward to seeing it ever since.

We saw a terrific first trailer land just before the end of last year, and it’s since been followed up with a great UK trailer two months back. And with its US release date fast approaching at the end of the month, Yahoo Movies have released a great new clip, giving us a little look at just how great Gosling is in this role. His sense of immediacy and desperation here is so good.

Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.

Gosling and Cooper are joined by a brilliant cast here, led by Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen.

Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) is directing from his own script once more, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

Gosling and Cianfrance made waves collaborating together on Blue Valentine back in 2010, which earned Michelle Williams an Oscar nominations two years ago. And they’ve followed it up with another impeccable partnership with this story of fathers and sons.

The Place Beyond the Pines will be released on 29th March in the US, with its UK release date following shortly after on 12th April. I can’t recommend this film enough. Definitely a must-see movie of the year.
