The first teaser trailer for Iron Man 3 is expected to drop next Tuesday, 23rd October, and naturally the anticipation is rather high for the first film in Marvel’s Phase Two, following on from the mammoth blockbuster that has been The Avengers this year.
Robert Downey, Jr. returns for another outing as Tony Stark / Iron Man, and with the teaser just a few days away, the official synopsis has now been sent our way.
“Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.
Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.”
Downey, Jr. will be starring alongside a fantastic cast, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau reprising their roles, alongside a terrific new cast headed up by Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale, Stephanie Szostak, and Sir Ben Kingsley, with Paul Bettany naturally expected to return as the voice of JARVIS.
Shane Black has taken over the helm in Favreau’s place for the third film, directing from a script he co-wrote with the increasingly rising writer, Drew Pearce, who’s been hired to pen Sherlock Holmes 3, and recently given the Godzilla script to polish, making him definitely one to watch in the years to come.
Iron Man 3 is now officially set for release in 3D, and is due out on 26th April, 2013 here in the UK, followed by a 3rd May release in the US. We can’t wait. The expectations are naturally high, and there’s no way that Marvel, Black, and Downey, Jr. won’t deliver. Be sure to come back early next week for when the teaser hits.
