Due out in the US on Christmas Day in prime Oscar contention, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained is naturally one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year.

Things have been fairly quiet on the Tarantino front since the summer, but with its release now on the horizon, the new trailer has now debuted online over at Apple.

“Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award(R)-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award(R)-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles–dead or alive.”

Jamie Foxx takes the eponymous lead as Django, starring alongside an immense cast, headed up by Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Jonah Hill, and Samuel L. Jackson, and a cameo from the director himself.

Tarantino is once more directing from his own script, and with rumours that the film might premiere at the International Rome Film Festival, held between 9th and 17th November this year, we could be seeing the first reviews coming in in a matter of weeks.

Django Unchained will be released by The Weinstein Company in the US on Christmas Day, putting it in perfect position for a campaign in the coming awards season. Here in the UK, it will land a little later, on 18th January, 2013, but you know it’s going to be well worth the wait. In the meantime, here’s the brilliant new trailer we’ve all been waiting for. Enjoy.
