The-Host-PosterAndrew Niccol returns to the helm this month to bring us The Host, the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s original novel of the same name. The film marks a potential new franchise from the author of The Twilight Saga, following the conclusion of that series last year with Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

This time around, Saoirse Ronan takes the lead as Melanie Stryder, with Jake Abel and Max Irons completing the young leading trio.

We’ve seen plenty from this sci-fi film to suggest that Niccol is bringing us another brilliant blockbuster, and I’m really looking forward to its arrival. With the film’s release date set for the end of the month, AMC Cinemas have debuted a new clip, giving us a look at Ronan’s Stryder diving out of a window, as seen in the latest trailer.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading ‘soul’ who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves – Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury star alongside the young three leads.

Niccol is once more directing from his own script, based on Meyer’s original novel.

The Host will be released in the UK on 27th March, with its US release date set for two days later on 29th March. Whilst we wait, here is the new clip to give you a taste of what to expect.
