The-Great-Gatsby-–-Joel-Edgerton-Character-PosterThe Great Gatsby was long one our most anticipated films of the year, until Warner Bros. decided to push the film back for a Summer 2013 release back in August.

As much as we were hoping to see it before the year’s end, a summer release for the blockbuster does sound very awesome, and gives us that much longer for the anticipation to build.

With only half a year to go before Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation arrives on the big screen, the studio have kicked off the next instalment in the ad campaign tonight with the release of a beautiful new character poster for Isla Fisher. And now they’ve given us the second in the set, with Joel Edgerton front and centre.

“From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby. The filmmaker will create his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. “The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.”

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan star in the leading trio for one of the blockbusters we’re most looking forward to seeing next year. And starring alongside them will be an excellent cast, headed up by Edgerton, Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Luhrmann is once more directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet), adapting the seminal novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The Great Gatsby will be released in 3D on 10th May, 2013 in the US, with its UK release date set for a week later on 17th May. I cannot wait. This is going to be amazing. For now, here’s the latest character poster of Edgerton, which you can click through to enlarge. And we’ll be sure to bring you the next in the series as they hit.
