And, of course, it’s called The Bling Ring. With a title like that, and a cadre of filmmakers like it has, it’s unmissable cinema.
With its June release date now very much on the horizon, the first teaser trailer has debuted, giving us a great little look at the film. I think the thing that I love most about it is that it features almost no dialogue, and still helps us know just what to expect.
Inspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers, Rebecca, Marc, Nicki, Sam and Chloe, known as the Bling Ring, use the Internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes. Victims included Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge, and Orlando Bloom.
Watson stars alongside a great cast, led by Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Claire Pfister, and Carlos Miranda, with Leslie Mann starring as Watson’s on-screen mother.
Coppola is directing from her own script, based on an original article by Nancy Jo Sales for Vanity Fair called, The Suspects Wore Louboutins.
Following the end of Harry Potter in 2011, Watson returned to centre stage with her first co-leading role last year in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and now she’s front and centre once more here for Coppola’s latest. The partnership sounds like a stroke of genius, and we’re looking forward to the results.
The Bling Ring will be starting its limited release in the US on 14th June. No word yet on a UK release date, but we’re hoping it arrives in the summer too, because this looks like a perfect fit for a summer feel. I can’t wait. Here’s the first teaser trailer to show you why.
