The Dark Knight Rises will be the most epic; The Amazing Spider-Man will be the most awesome.
I caught an early screening this week and absolutely loved it from minute one. I can’t wait to be able to talk about it with other people; it was so good!
The film has been promoted brilliantly over the past few months, and with its release now less than two weeks away, the official site has debuted an interactive trailer that lets you play along whilst you watch, and a new image of Emma Stone.
(The trailer is the same one we saw in May, but with the images added and neat little fun-facts about Spider-Man.)
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.”
Marc Webb has done a fantastic job behind the camera, with Andrew Garfield stepping brilliantly into the Spidey suit, opposite Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as the main antagonist, The Lizard. Starring alongside the leading trio are Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Irrfan Khan, and of course Stan Lee in his usual cameo (they’re always great, and this one doesn’t disappoint).
James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, and Steve Kloves have penned the script, and Vanderbilt has already got the ball rolling on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman hired for the re-write.
James Horner has done an expectedly brilliant job with the original score, and I really hope that he’ll be back for the sequel too.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 3rd July in the UK and US, and there’s a good chance tickets are already on sale in your local cinema. This is definitely one you’ll want to see on the big screen, and I really can’t recommend it enough. I’m already immensely excited to see it again.
