If you’re not a fan of McG’s films (titles like Charlie’s Angels, Terminator: Salvation, This Means War, etc.), then it will probably come as a disappointment to learn that he’s emerged as a frontrunner to take the helm of the live-action Masters Of The Universe reboot.

The movie has been in the works for years now, but this is a sign that things are finally moving forward. The latest version of the screenplay was written by the writing team of Alex Litvak and Mike Finch, but McG will reportedly oversee a rewrite, so it could be a while before production begins. A release at some point in the next few years obviously seems likely!

According to Deadline, the film revolves around He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor. Masters Of The Universe obviously has massive franchise potential, and a reboot does seem long overdue seeing as the last version was released way back in 1987.

That version starred Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor, but the animated and comic versions of Masters Of The Universe have had much more success.
