The tale of Robin Hood has been told time and time again on the big screen from the 2010 version starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, to 1991’s version with Kevin Costner and the 1938 outing with Errol Flynn. It’s an age-old story which never gets old and moves with the times to engage new audiences with the latest in the hottest names brought in to put bums on seats.
This latest version of the poor man’s hero is due for release in 2018 and has a number of actors to thrill a wide range of audience. Names such as Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie the Eagle) as our hero, Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Ray) as Little John, Ladies favourite, Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) as Will Scarlet, Eve Hewson (Bridge of Spies) as Maid Marion, Tim Minchin (Californication) as Friar Tuck, and Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders, The Revenant) in an undisclosed role.
English director Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, Hustle) takes the helm in what is being dubbed as an origin story with a gritty tone which sees Robin Hood returning from The Crusades to discover a Sherwood Forest rife with corruption and evil. Teaming with a band of outlaws which includes Foxx to takes matters into his own hands to set things right and lead a rebellion against the crown of England.
With filming already full steam ahead in the harbour area of Dubrovnik, most stars apart from Dornan are already settled in the country until its wrap date of the 6th of March. Joby Harold has provided his pen for the screenplay and Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Basil Iwanyk, Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold all in the producer’s chair(s).
