For some reason, there are currently a number of competing Robin Hood movies in the works at various studios. Disney has one which is said to be in the similar in tone to Pirates Of The Caribbean; Sony picked up a pitch last year for one which has bizarrely been described as being a cross between Fast & Furious and Mission: Impossible; Warner Bros. also has one.

Then there’s Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins, and it seems they’re scrambling to be first!

The current shorlist for the title role in this movie is made up of Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Dylan O’Brian (The Maze Runner). However, of those four, only Reynor has met with director Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders).

That’s a varied group of actors, but it’s clear from both that list and the movie’s title that Robin Hood: Origins will focus on the character in his early days. In fact, it’s described as picking up with Robin Hood when he returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2016.
