There are a few movies getting small screen sequels this Autumn, including Limitless and Minority Report. Now, there’s a prequel on the way, and it’s going to be set before the events of Taken. That’s right, three movies wasn’t enough; Bryan Mills is coming to television!

Taken was a hit back in 2008 and turned Liam Neeson into a bona fide action star. While the sequels stretched the premise a little thin and thereby failed to resonate with critics, they performed well at the box office. There’s no word on a fourth instalment (the actor didn’t seem too keen when asked about it not too long ago), possibly explaining this series.

It’s landed a straight to series order at NBC, and the search is already underway for a writer/showrunner to take charge of the prequel which will focus on a young Bryan Mills.

According to Deadline, the show will follow Bryan before he got married and had his daughter (leading us to wonder who will get…Taken). The longline pays homage to the first movie by stating, “What I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career; Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.” The trade goes on to add that the show will focus on how Mills acquires his “very particular set of skills.” Makes sense!

What doesn’t is the fact that this Taken TV series will be set in the present day, the same time period as the movies. In that sense, it’s obviously going to be a very loose prequel.
