Despite constant references to the Man of Steel throughout Supergirl’s first season, all we ever got to see of the hero were his boots or him flying through the air from a distance. As time wore on, this just became tedious, and as great as the show was, Superman never actually making a physical appearance felt silly given his closeness to Kara Danvers.

Well, it’s now been revealed that the iconic superhero is coming to Supergirl season two, but he won’t be played by Henry Cavill. Bear in mind that the DC TV and DC Films Universes are completely separate, so Warner Bros. is currently looking for a new actor to take on the role.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement released today. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

It’s obviously still early days and we don’t yet know whether this Superman will just make a couple of appearances or be a recurring character. With any luck, he will end up being part of that already confirmed four night crossover with Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow!
