Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-PosterTickets for J.J. Abrams’ immensely anticipated sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, went on advanced sale this week, ahead of the film’s release next month. And when the sales went up, the flood gates opened just as we expected. Booking for the BFI IMAX screening was in such high demand on Wednesday morning that the website up and crashed.

More than ten times the level of traffic that the website is capable of handling was attempting to book tickets early, which is a pretty impressive figure, to say the least. The last time something like this happened is thought to have been for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises last year, and that went on to top a billion dollars at the global box office.

With advanced tickets now available for ordering here in the UK, we’ve also got a rather awesome new ‘Cinemosaic’ poster to share, following the latest poster that we saw earlier in the week.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke make up a very promising leading cast.

Abrams is directing from a script penned by co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus).

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 9th May here in the UK, with its US release date set for the following week on May 17th. Tickets are now available to order in the UK, and as you can guess from the BFI IMAX’s website crashing, they’re going fast. So if you want to be amongst the first to see the film next month, we’d recommend getting your tickets booked in soon.
