Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-PosterWhen it comes to marketing campaigns, few do it better than J.J. Abrams. The upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Star Trek Into Darkness, promises to be one of the biggest films of the year. And just a few hours ago, we were treated to a brilliant new international trailer.

What we didn’t realise at first was that the trailer features a link hidden within it that reveals the film’s awesome new poster.

You’d essentially have to freeze-frame on the shot of Alice Eve below to even notice it. And much credit here goes to TrekMovie.com (via CBM) for spotting the link.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke take the lead, giving us another brilliant ensemble for the sequel.

Abrams is back behind the camera, directing from a script penned by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus).

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 9th May here in the UK, with its US release date set for the following week on May 17th. For now, here’s the awesome new poster, with Cumberbatch looking pretty menacing. And if you missed it, be sure to watch the latest international trailer that landed earlier.
