Kosinski made a terrific debut back in 2010 with TRON: Legacy, and Oblivion will mark only the second feature from a clearly talented multi-hyphenate.
The last we saw from the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi blockbuster was a new featurette last week. And now Apple have debuted another featurette, along with a new app, entitled ‘Drone Defender’.
On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.
Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
Cruise is joined by a brilliant cast, led by Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.
Kosinki is directing from a script he co-wrote with William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt, based on the original graphic novel, Oblivion, by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.
Whilst I’m ordinarily incredibly happy with my Nokia phone, this official Oblivion movie app does admittedly sound pretty cool.
Oblivion will released in regular and IMAX theatres on 12th April here in the UK, with its US release date now set for April 19th in regular and IMAX theatres. It looks like we’re in for an awesome ride here. Here’s the latest featurette to prove it. And you can head over to iTunes to download the free movie app.
