Oblivion-PosterAfter his brilliant 2010 debut with TRON: Legacy, Joseph Kosinski returns to the big screen next month for his sophomore feature, Oblivion.

The film sees Kosinski very much back in sci-fi/action territory, and with Tom Cruise taking the lead, it’s more than likely to be a big success for Universal at the box office next month.

In the past two weeks, we’ve been treated to an action-packed new trailer, as well as the first track from the score from M83’s anticipated soundtrack. And now Yahoo Movies have debuted a new featurette, taking us behind the scenes for Kosinski’s return.

On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Starring alongside Cruise is a great ensemble, led by Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.

Kosinki is directing from a script he co-wrote with William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt, based on the original graphic novel, Oblivion, by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.

Oblivion will be released in the UK on 12th April. It will then head across the Atlantic a week later for a US release in regular and IMAX theatres on 19th April. Be sure to commit the appropriate release date to memory, because it looks like this is going to be awesome.
