Returning fifty years after it first premiered, yet set ten years before Captain Kirk, Spock and The Enterprise emerged as our space heroes, the 15 episode series features a new ship, new characters and new missions. It does, however, embrace the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

The show’s cast includes James Frain as Spock’s famed Vulcan Father Sarek, Jason Isaac is Captain Lorca, Sonequa Martin as Commander Burham, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful) will now star as Lieutenant Tyler, a Starfleet officer in the Federation. Rekha Sharma (Battlestar Galactica, The 100) will star as Commander Landry, the security officer of the Starship Discovery. Kenneth Mitchell (Jericho, Astronaut Wives Club, Frequency) will star as Kol, a commanding officer in the Klingon Empire. Clare McConnell (Dim the Fluorescents) will star as Dennas, a leader in the Klingon Empire.Damon Runyan (Suits, Supernatural, Gangland Undercover) will star as Ujilli, a leader in the Klingon Empire.

The image, which consists of Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin, has the duo beamed down to an as-yet-unrevealed planet wearing outfits that wouldn’t look out of place on the set of a Star Wars movie. The trailer sees first commander Burham taking command of the Discovery, as Sarek imparts some words of wisdom as the Discovery hits trouble after engaging with Klingons.
