The rumour mill has gone into overdrive with the announcement of the full cast list for Paramount and Bad Robot’s next sci-fi outing, Overlord. Bad Robot is known for its secretive approach to films which cause a rumbling of excitement among movie fans, so speculation is now mounting that Overlord could very well be the next installment in the Cloverfield saga.

What makes this look even more likely is the fact that Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane producer J.J. Abrams is also onboard to produce Overlord alongside Lindsey Weber, by giving away this kind of information Bad Robot and Paramount knew this would get tongues wagging and could very well be a ruse to lull us into a false interpretation.

The story is set on the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realise there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.

Son of a Gun’s Julius Avery is to take the helm on the sci-fi film with a cast that consists off  Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some), Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones), Iain de Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane) and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo)

Taking up the pen to write the script will be Captain Phillips, Billy Ray and The Revenants Mark L. Smith so we can at least expect a tense and thrilling sci-fi adventure. Overlord is expecting to start filming in the UK this month.
