To celebrate the release of Star Trek: Discovery, which returns for its fifth season next year as well as coming to Paramount+ in the UK, we sat down with its captain to find out about its long journey.

The series begins around ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series when Commander Michael Burnham’s recklessness starts a war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. She is court-martialed, demoted, and reassigned to the USS Discovery, which has a unique means of propulsion called the “Spore Drive”. After an adventure in the Mirror Universe, Discovery helps end the Klingon war.

Speaking to Martin-Green about the show, we chat about its huge success, the challenges of tackling the Star Trek lore with new adventures, how the show has helped drive the conversations over equality and acceptance and helped change the narratives, whether season five will be its final journey and whether there will be a quick stop-off on the big-screen in its future.
