Following on from the success of the likes of LOVEFiLM and Netflix, Sky have now decided to get in on the action, with their latest initiative NOW TV; an online movie service predominantly aimed at those who are not already a Sky customer.

Launching tomorrow – July 17th – HeyUGuys were specially invited along to the press launch this morning in Covent Garden, London, allowing us the opportunity in speaking to those working hard behind the scenes, whilst also being given the chance in testing out the new service on a variety of devices, such as the iPad, a laptop and an iPhone.

Effectively NOW TV is providing a service which allows movie fans the chance to access Sky’s broad movie database, with a immense selection of releases, both old and new. With a monthly subscription a user can view such movies whenever they please, on whichever device takes their fancy. Yet NOW TV is not solely aimed at those who aren’t already subscribed to Sky, as the service also offers its users the chance to pay-and-play, where for a small fee you are able to purchase almost 1000 titles separately to the subscribed selection, including releases as recent as We Bought a Zoo, John Carter and The Woman in Black.

At the launch we had the chance to speak to Stephen Van Rooyen – Managing Director, sales and marketing, who had more information on the service.

“NOW TV is really about giving us the opportunity to extend our reach to the 13 million households that currently don’t subscribe to a paid service and really gives us a new opportunity to use a new model – no commitment, no contract in way of delivering our service to these households,” he said.

“Sky is a full service proposition which makes the widest number of channels available at the highest quality, with products like SkyPlus HD and Sky 3D all for a fixed monthly cost – compared to NowTV which is a pay-as-you-go service that allows you to dip in and dip out and gives customers a flexibility in accessing Sky’s great content.”

Launching tomorrow NOW TV is a brilliant device that will no doubt appeal to film fans across the country, as an on-the-go service that simply brings the cinematic experience directly to you. So if you’re sitting at home and fancy watching a film you’ve always wanted to see, with NOW TV, for a mere 99p, you can do just that.

And NOW TV Director Simon Creasey is certainly confident the product will be a success.

“Following the explosion in internet-connected devices, we know that more and more people are looking for great content to watch over the web, and that’s where NOW TV comes in. Offering a new and exciting way to enjoy Sky Movies on some of the most popular internet-connected devices, NOW TV gives films fans everywhere a new choice.

“We hope you like it – because we’re all really excited!” he concluded.
