Though the previous entry is my favourite kiss is cinema this is a close runner-up. Mainly because it is a moment of greatness hidden in a breezy Hitchcock film, often overlooked and almost never mentioned among his great works. Yet I maintain there are some of Hitchcock’s most witty and sly moments here. Not least the goodbye at the hotel door Grace Kelly and Cary Grant share after their first night of knowing one another. Everything about the scene is perfect. The cat and mouse banter and agenda ridden pleasantries are let go and the look on Cary Grant’s face (not included in the clip below, but added in as an image) is priceless.
