Doctor Strange

While the drama surrounding the search for a new Ant-Man director to replace Edgar Wright continues, Marvel Studios have zeroed in on a filmmaker to bring Doctor Strange to the big screen.

Various sources are reporting that Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still) has been chosen to bring the Sorcerer Supreme to the life, with writing team Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda) said to still be in the mix to pen the screenplay.

As well as the movies listed above, Derrickson wrote and directed the upcoming Deliver Us From Evil, a movie starring Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn.

He’s had a lot of success in the realm of supernatural horror, making him a great fit to bring a character like Doctor Strange to the big screen. It also gives us an idea of what to expect from the tone of the movie, and while no release date has been mentioned, it’s likely that Doctor Strange will be released in 2016.

For those of you unfamiliar with the character, Dr. Stephen Strange was once a gifted but egotistical surgeon who sought out the Ancient One to heal his hands after they were wounded in a car accident. Instead, the Ancient One trained him to become Master of the Mystic Arts and the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.
