Metal Gear Solid

Yet another popular video game series is being brought to the big screen as Sony have entered talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Produced by The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Avi Arad, Metal Gear Solid is being prioritised by production president Michael De Luca and has been in development for several years now, mostly due to the fact that the studio and game creators have been going back and fore on how best to adapt the franchise.

Of course, like Halo and Bioshock before it, there’s every chance that Metal Gear Solid will simply never happen, but the fact that The Kings of Summer (an independent coming-of-age comedy-drama) director is now in early talks is at least a sign that it’s finally getting somewhere close to becoming a reality.

The series was created by Hideo Kojima, and the original focused on Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrated a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit.

It has all the ingredients of a great movie, and with Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell both heading to the big screen over the next couple of years, we could be looking at the dawn of a new trend in Hollywood as studios utilise not only their comic book properties, but also video game ones.

Are you looking forward to a Metal Gear Solid movie?
