After getting a brilliant first teaser poster for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s return to the world of Sin City in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For just last week, the sequel’s release date has officially been announced as 4th October, 2013.

According to the press release, Jessica Alba and Mickey Rourke are both confirmed to reprise their roles, and it’s expected that many more from the original cast will be coming back, too.

And since the film is expected to go back and forth in time, in prequel/sequel fashion, more of the cast might be back than you might first think.

William Monahan, the Oscar-winning writer of The Departed and the upcoming Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, has penned the script alongside Rodriguez and Miller, so fans of the original can sleep soundly in the knowledge that it’s all in very, very good hands.

The press release refers to the title as Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which is what last week’s teaser poster revealed, but for brevity’s sake, it will no doubt just be referred to as Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (or just A Dame to Kill For / Sin City 2) in everyday conversation.

But officially – Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Rodriguez is set to shoot his other sequel, Machete Kills, first this summer, and then production will go straight into A Dame to Kill For once that’s wrapped.

The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films will be handling US distribution, and though there’s no word yet on when the UK will be seeing it, I’d imagine we’ll be getting it either that weekend, or very shortly afterwards.

In the States, that release is currently fairly open, with only an untitled Disney project due to open on the 4th October next year, but that could change as we get closer to the end of next year. I can’t imagine any studios or distributors will want to go up against the Sin City sequel though, so realistically, it will almost definitely be going straight to the top of the box office. More as we get it. For now, the official press release.
