Current Hollywood whipping boy (and deservedly so) M. Night Shyamalan has been talking to MTV about the series of fantasy films he’s producing called the Night Chronicles (a title which further suggests this guy has a seriously bloated ego – he’s no Alfred Hitchcock…).

He talks mostly about the first film under this banner (called Devil), but he does mention that he’s “cannibalised the idea for the sequel to Unbreakable” and plans to incorporate it into another one of these forthcoming features. Daniel Stamm, the director of The Last Exorcism, dropped hints this week that he was going to direct another Night Chronicle – Twelve Strangers.

Hang on a minute.

Surely, given the three strike-outs he’s managed to achieve in the latter part of his career, it would make sense for him creatively and financially (particularly for the studio involved in funding his next directorial venture) to revisit his second film. Out of all his work, Unbreakable is the one which has the most potential in terms of story scope and if done correctly, could ultimately help to alleviate the damage he’s created with the likes of The Happening and The Last Airbender.

He even says goes on to say that “the question I get asked the most anywhere around the world — if I’m making the sequel to Unbreakable”. It couldn’t be more obvious what he really needs to do.

Come on Night! Ditch this idea and go back to developing an Unbreakable sequel with the material you already have.
