Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looks like a huge movie, and well, the reason for that may be down to more than just the two titular heroes meeting on the big screen for the first time! According to a new report, the budget for the Zack Snyder helmed release has ballooned to an insane $410 million, a figure which makes it one of the most expensive ever.

In fact, it may have even broken Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ record when it comes to its budget, so Warner Bros. are no doubt keeping everything crossed that this one sails past the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office when it’s released next year; if not, the future of these DC Comics adaptations could be put in serious jeopardy moving forward.

Perhaps that’s why the studio is hedging their bets by giving the two Justice League movies (both of which will be directed by Snyder) a combined budget of $500 million. That’s half of what the two-part Avengers: Infinity War has been rumoured as costing, but as $400 million of that is for the cast – with Robert Downey Jr. taking half – it’s a very different situation.

Why is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice costing so much? It’s been blamed on, “the addition of big name cast members, practical sets, and an extended production schedule.”

Regardless, it’s hard to imagine the first meeting between Batman and Superman not being a hit, and it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not Dawn of Justice ends up breaking the $1.4 billion record held by The Avengers. In other Justice League news, the plan apparently is to shoot both movies back to back in London for sixteen months next year!
