Sorry Mutt fans – but it seems you’re favourite sidekick/son has enjoyed his last hurrah if writer David Koepp’s new comments are to be believed.

Screenwriter Koepp has been the voice behind many classic films over the years, whether it’s Spider-Man, Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park or Death Becomes Her, and is set to continue his long working partnership with director Steven Spielberg on the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, which isn’t released for another three years but is already in the early stages of pre-production.

Koepp worked with Spielberg on part four, The Crystal Skull, which was released in 2008 and was met with mixed reviews when it was released, but went on to gross over $786.6million at the box office. Indeed, work has already begun on Indy 5 and speaking to EW, the writer shed some light on what we can expect from the film, saying:

“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say… and the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film. We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford… I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post… If the stars align, hopefully it’ll be his next film.”

Spielberg himself is a busy man right now – the aforementioned The Post (formerly The Papers) is in post-production with a release date set for December and stars Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson, Alison Brie, Bob Odenkirk, Tracey Letts and many others, and could be a big player come awards season.

Then, next Spring, the director releases the long-awaited adaptation of Ready Player One, which stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, T. J. Miller and Simon Pegg.

As for Indy 5, well Harrison Ford is back along with Spielberg and Koepp and a release date of July 10th, 2020.
