This news from the House of Mouse, by way of Angelina Jolie, is going to please a lot of people as the Oscar Winning star has been speaking about her return to acting and one role she is keen to reprise – Maleficent.

After taking some time away from acting to be behind the camera, Jolie has been speaking about her return in front of the camera with various projects on her desk for sure. But it’s the long-gestating sequel to 2014’s Maleficent that many of her fans are desperate for her to reprise and it seems that the wait might not go on for much longer.

Last week, screenwriter Jez Butterworth (Cruella, Edge of Tomorrow) was brought on to re-write the script for the film and now Jolie has seemingly given the clearest indication yet that she is set to put on the horns once more. Speaking at the Telluride Film Festival (via Deadline), Jolie responded to questions about the film, briefly saying:

“I am now the breadwinner for the family, so it’s time… We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel.”

Released 2014, Maleficent was one of the first live-action remakes/reboots of Disney’s classic films, this one retelling the story of Sleeping Beauty but from the point of view of Maleficent, the film’s villain. The film went on to gross an impressive $758.5 million worldwide and co-starred Elle Fanning (The Beguiled) as Beauty as well as Sharlto Copley (Chappie) and Sam Riley (Free Fire).

Jolie is at Telluride to promote her new film, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, her new film as a director which tells the story of a young girl in the midst of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in 1975. The film debuts on Netflix on September 15th.
