Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in the leads in what is promising to be a brilliant comedy pairing with heart, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is set to be one of the best films of the summer.

The brilliant first trailer debuted back in February, and it’s been one of my most anticipated films of the year ever since (and, in fact, before that, too). Focus Features have released a healthy batch of clips, TV spots, a look behind the scenes, and new images to boot. It’s the perfect little package to soak up before the world ends: either next weekend if you live in the US or next month if you’re here in the UK.

“Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity’s last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge (Steve Carell) and Penny (Keira Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”

Lorene Scafaria makes her feature directorial debut from her own script, making a name for herself with her writing debut in 2008 with Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and I can’t wait to see how she follows it up.

Adam Brody, Melanie Lynskey, Patton Oswalt, William Peterson, Gillian Jacobs, Connie Britton, Rob Corddry, and T.J. Miller all co-star, filling out an impressive supporting cast.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World will be bringing the Armageddon to you in the US next Friday on 22nd June, before ending our world here in the UK a little later on 13th July. Be sure to commit that date to memory, because I think this is a film you’ll want to see. For now, I’ll leave you with this great little care package (and as usual with the images, the last of which includes Scafaria on set, you can click to enlarge).
