Every time I walk past the poster at my local cinema for the BTTF cinema re-release, I get a bit goose-bumpy. It seems ridiculous to think it has already been 25 years since “1.21 gigawatts!”, “great scott!” etc.

I am thoroughly excited that I get to see it on the big screen and delighted to read today on THR that Universal have managed to dig out another load of new extras for the upcoming Blu-ray release.

It always feels lazy when studios simply transfer the existing package onto the improved format, especially when there is clearly ample material to flesh out a properly improved special edition.

Here’s a clip from one of the extras (“Tales of the Future”), with director / co-writer Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale discussing the germination of the original idea for the film – if you had known your dad when he was at school and had been the same age as him, would you have been friends?

Our interview with writer and co-creator Bob Gale will be up in the site shortly, here’s the clip.

The shiny new Blu-ray boxset is due out on 25th October and as we reported here, BTTF gets its cinema re-release on 1st October.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
