The official trailer has been unveiled for writer and director Alexis Alexiou’s third feature, ‘Sea of Glass,’ ahead of its highly anticipated World Premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on Sunday, 16 August. Alexiou, best known for ‘Tale 52’ and ‘Wednesday 04:45, ‘returns with a powerful country noir road movie set against the striking backdrop of the Greek coastline.

The premiere screening will be attended by the filmmakers and cast, introducing audiences to a gripping story that blends family drama, suspense and social commentary within the contemporary Greek countryside.

Sea of Glass follows two women whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined in an off-season Greek seaside resort as they confront the weight of the past, entrenched family expectations and the pressures of living within a close-knit provincial community.

Vangelio, aged 65, has spent years confined to her home, caring for her bedridden husband while becoming increasingly isolated from her two sons. Finding solace only in her collection of old travel guidebooks, she dreams of escaping her daily routine.

Following the sudden death of her husband, Vangelio makes a bold and unexpected decision to finally take a holiday. She books accommodation in a quiet tourist resort just outside Chalkida, the capital of Evia, during the deserted off-season in March.

There she meets 23-year-old Vicky, who is struggling under the weight of running her family’s fish tavern while caring for her volatile alcoholic father. When his abusive behaviour escalates one evening, Vangelio intervenes to protect the young woman.

As violence erupts within the small seaside community, the consequences ripple through the town with devastating force, much like the crashing waves that dominate the rugged coastline.

‘Sea of Glass’ stars Evangelia Adreadaki (Arcadia, Little England, Smac) alongside newcomer Christiana Matelska Toka in her feature film debut.

The supporting cast includes Michalis Iatropoulos (Cheap Smokes, Digger, One Day in August), Nikos Georgakis (Truants), Thanos Tokakis (Eftihia, Tokakis or What’s My Name) and Dimitris Tzoumakis (Wednesday 04:45).
