Turbo-PosterDreamWorks’ Turbo is definitely shaping up to be one of the best animated films of the year, and with its release date just over two weeks away in the US, the studio have released a brilliant new trailer for the family-friendly adventure movie.

After Rise of the Guardians surprisingly failed to turn a profit last year, the studio began this year on much stronger footing with the very successful release of The Croods. With the film launching a new franchise for the animation house, things are looking much better, with Turbo expected to do the same in the months and years to come.

Netflix has already partnered with DreamWorks to create their first original content for children with a new TV series, and if all goes well at the box office in a couple weeks’ time, we’ll likely have more movies to look forward to, too.

From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Turbo is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Having worked with DreamWorks on The Croods, Ryan Reynolds lends his voice to the animated movie as the eponymous Turbo. And he’s joined by a great voice cast, headed up by Paul Giamatti, Michael Peña, Michelle Rodriguez, Bill Hader, Luis Guzman, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg/Lion, and Samuel L. Jackson.

David Soren (Merry Madagascar) makes his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with Robert D. Siegel (The Wrestler) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After), based on his own original idea.

Turbo will be released in 3D on July 17th in the US, with its UK release date unfortunately trailing behind somewhat on 18th October. It definitely looks like it’ll be worth the wait, though, and we’ve got the latest trailer to help make that wait a little easier.
