IGN got talking with Robert Rodriguez about Predators while at Comic-Con and he said that a further sequel looks likely.

“[The studio] said, ‘Let’s do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have?'” said the filmmaker. “Because it was like, let’s test out the market with this one. They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn’t want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there.”

Rodriguez, who produced Predators with Nimrod Antal directing, says he has “an idea” for a further sequel and would plan to invite a number of screenwriters to pitch to him on the basis of that idea, together with introducing any new concepts they might have as well. Whether he could be tempted to direct this one himself is hard to say. He is an extremely accomplished action director and perfectly at home with complex effects shots, however he seems to feel obliged to complete Sin City 2 first (and how long have we been waiting for that?). He may therefore remain as producer and bring in a director as before.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
