Deadline reports that Rob Lowe has signed on to appear with Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven in a new indie thriller to be directed by Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies). In I Melt With You, Lowe will play a doctor fighting both a growing drug addiction and painful personal loss.

“Micro-budget” is the phrase used by Deadline and at a rumoured production cost of £1m, they aren’t kidding. Suddenly £300m worth of Transformers or Spiderman seems a little wasteful. Pellington and scripter Glenn Porter developed the story together, which is reported to revolve around the modern male psyche.

Pellington hasn’t done much that we’ve seen since Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies, plying his trade in music videos and television instead, but Arlington Road showed real ability and promise and we are hopeful for good things.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
