This year’s Richard Attenborough UK Regional Film Awards were held in London this afternoon, in celebration of all the best in film from 2011. The RAFAs this year have thirteen categories, six of which are voted for by regional film critics, and seven of which are put to public vote.
As you can no doubt guess from the title, the awards are of course named in honour of actor-director-producer Richard Attenborough, best known for his work on Jurassic Park, Gandhi, and Miracle on 34th Street, in which he was the epitome of everything I imagine Santa to be.
Announced earlier this afternoon, the results are as follows:

Screenwriter of the Year – Bridget O’Connor & Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)

We here at HeyUGuys were nominated in the Film Blog category, and we’d all like to say thank you to everyone who voted for us, as well as a big congratulations to CineVue. It’s been a fantastic year for us here on the site, and we can’t wait to bring you more and more of all things film-related in the coming year.
Though he was overlooked for a nomination at the Academy Awards, it’s really good to see that Michael Fassbender’s been getting considerable attention at a host of other awards for his performance in Shame, because it really was one of the year’s best films and best performances. He’s been nominated for Best Actor at this year’s BAFTA Awards, so be sure to check back in next Sunday, 12th February, to see the outcome of that, as well as all of the other results. It’s going to be a great night.
If you haven’t caught Shame at the cinema already, I highly recommend seeking it out. It’s still showing in a handful of theatres across the country, and if it’s not playing anywhere near you, then fear not, because it’s scheduled to be released on DVD/Blu-Ray at the end of May.
