Reese Witherspoon has struck a deal with streaming platform Netflix to star in the new rom-com’s ‘Your Place or Mine’ and ‘The Cactus’.

As well as taking a starring role in both features, Witherspoon will also produce through her Hello Sunshine company.

Based on Sarah Haywood’s bestselling novel, ‘The Cactus’ focuses on a woman’s unexpected pregnancy at 45 years old, causing her to rethink the structured life she has created for herself. She then goes on an unconventional journey toward love, family and learning to embrace the unexpected.

‘Your Place or Mine’ centres on two long-distance best friends who change each other’s lives when one decides to pursue a lifelong dream and the other volunteers to keep an eye on the friend’s teenage son.

Aline Brosh McKenna has penned the original script and will also make her directorial debut on the project. Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan will produce the film through Aggregate Films, as part of their first-look deal with Netflix, alongside Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and McKenna for Lean Machine.

Witherspoon is no stranger to a rom-com or two having starred in films such as ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, ‘This Means War’ and the ‘Legally Blonde’ films. Her latest projects saw her star in Apple TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ alongside Jennifer Aniston and ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ alongside Kerry Washington.
